Everyone on the team has been shocked and devastated by the loss of Charles Kennedy this week.
He was much loved by everyone in the Liberal Democrat family, and we miss his humour, charisma and the way he could connect with people outside the Westminster bubble.
Tower Hamlets needs new leadership and new ideas so that we can build a united community together. A vote for Elaine Bagshaw is a vote for a better Tower Hamlets.
The biggest legacy of Labour and Tower Hamlets First is a community where over 20,000 families are still waiting for a home, leaseholders are being overcharged and families are forced to live in unsuitable housing. This is simply unacceptable and it has to change.
I want to see homes and communities built in our borough, and will challenge developers and housing associations to do better for local people and to protect our community. I am proud to call Tower Hamlets my home, and I want to ensure we build a better Tower Hamlets together.
Elaine Bagshaw launched her campaign for Mayor of Tower Hamlets on Saturday, saying that the borough is “in need of a clean-up and….a resilient, bold, Liberal Democrat voice in our Tower Hall’.
Elaine lives and works in the borough and offering new ideas and a vision for the borough.
I'm running for mayor because we need to build a better Tower Hamlets that works for everyone.
49% of our children live in poverty.
We live in the shadows of the City yet have second highest unemployment rate in London.
Why is it that if you are born in Tower Hamlets you are expected to live 5 fewer years than someone born in the City of London?
This can’t go on. It is time for a change with local people leading the way.
If elected mayor I will:
- Make sure that there are affordable homes for working families
- Deliver new local facilities such as more GPs and better local transportation needed to support our community.
- Create apprenticeships that pay the London Living Wage
- Save £1.5m by scrapping the council newspaper
- Have zero tolerance on corruption
As a regulator I have held banks to account, and supported those who fell victim to the scandals of payday lenders. I’ve also worked as a youth worker helping get young people back into education and into work.
I know what needs to be done and how hard it can be. But I also know that I can deliver for our community.
A vote for me is a vote for a better Tower Hamlets.
