In this election the Liberal Democrats stood up for their values of freedom, fairness and equality. We knew after the General Election that we would have to work hard to regain ground, and this second place result shows that when we go onto the streets to campaign and properly engage with people then they are willing to support us again.
Sheree Miller said, “We fought a campaign here that I’m really proud of. After a difficult general election result we went out onto the streets again and re-engaged with the community.
We’ve proven that people are interested in engaging with the Liberal Democrats again and, most importantly, in supporting a message of vision and hope rather than the old politics of fear and tribalism. The Lib Dem fightback is now much more than numbers of new members. It’s a groundswell of support for liberal values that we will continue fighting for through the City and East election next year and through to the 2018 local elections.”
