Building a Better Future: the environment

Just as it’s critical that we stop climate change, it’s also important that we protect the air we breathe. For too long, too many in Westminster have argued that we have to choose between our environment and our economy. I reject that false choice. I believe that we can and we must create a future where we balance a sustainable planet with economic prosperity. Where our streets are clean and our air is too. This is my plan, a Liberal Democrat plan, for our environment.

Ban Dirty Diesel.

Everyone deserves to breathe clean air. I’ll work with Liberal Democrats across London to fight for clean air by banning the dirty diesel that pollutes our atmosphere and endangers our health. We must find a way to keep London moving without compromising our standard of life.

Support the Cycling Bridge.

I’m proud to be part of a city that wants to incorporate the needs of cyclists with a dedicated bridge. We need to promote alternative transportation methods which is why I support the proposal to create an important new link between homes in Rotherhithe and jobs in Canary Wharf.

Streets We Can Be Proud Of.

We shouldn’t be confronted by dumped rubbish; dirty mattresses and overflowing bins. That’s why I’ll take some simple, effective steps to make sure you’re living in a clean and attractive borough. Steps like allowing council reports to be made through social media and working with neighbouring boroughs to improve the efficiency of services.

We need a representative who can face the challenges of today and seize the opportunities of our future. A future where diesel doesn’t cost us the earth. A future where clean air is a right for us all. A future where our streets are clean and our Council listens. That can be our future.

You have a choice. You can accept things as they are, or you can vote for change. Together we can build a better future. Vote for that future on May 5th. Vote Elaine Bagshaw for our City and East and Caroline Pidgeon and the Liberal Democrats for London.
